Lake Real Estate Relocation

Formed in 1861 and created from parts of the counties of Napa and Mendocino, Lake County is dubbed as the state of California’s great family getaway and recreation destination.  The county got its name from Clear Lake, California’s largest and oldest natural freshwater lake.  It is 43,000 acres big and about 150,000 years old.  Other major bodies of water in the county are Blue Lakes, Indian Valley Reservoir, and Lake Pillsbury.

Lakeport is the county seat and the approximate population is 59,000.
Thousands of years before the Egyptian civilization, Clear Lake was the main source of food of the Pomo Indians.  They collected plant foods, hunted, and fished on the shores of the lake.  Aside from food, tule reeds were also of abundance.  They made clothing, dwellings, boats, and household items from these.  When families from Europe found their way to this county in the 1850’s, ranching and farming grew fast, bringing more people and forcing the Pomo Indians to move to rancherias.

Today, Lake is mostly an agricultural county, with walnuts, pears and wine grapes as its major crops.  The four wineries have won numerous awards per acre, more than any other in the world.

History lovers will find the Lake County Museum and Lower Lake Historical Schoolhouse Museum interesting.  Adventure lovers will enjoy the national forests with its hiking and biking trails, hang gliding, hunting, fishing, and boating.

Inyo County generates more than 14,000 jobs and has nine types of businesses.  The largest industry is government, employing more than 3,000 employees.  Other businesses are service, retail, agriculture, construction and mining, manufacturing, transportation and public utilities, wholesale trade, and finance, insurance, and real estate.
Wealthy residents and retirees own mansions, upper middle, and middle class homes near the lake.  Smaller homes and fishing shacks are mostly found in the southern part of the lake.

Just two hours from the Bay Area, named by the California Air Resources Board as the county with the best air quality, no traffic problems, magnificent scenery, friendly communities, affordability, various attractions and outdoor activities, Inyo County is definitely a great relocation destination.
