Tehema Real Estate Relocation and Information
In 1856, parts of the counties of Butte, Colusa, and Shasta formed the county of Tehama. Situated 120 miles north of Sacramento, it is surrounded by Lassen Peak, Mount Shasta, and Trinity Mountain Range. The Sacramento River divides the county and it is one of the largest salmon spawning rivers in the world. It has an approximate population of 61,000, a total land area of 2,951 square miles, with about 22,000 households, and an average household income of $33,000. The county seat is Red Bluff and is about 200 miles from San Francisco. It is in this city that the first president of the California Republic, William B. Ide, lived. The actor, Tom Hanks, also came from Red Bluff.
Corning, another city in the county, is known as the Olive City. It is home to the world’s largest cannery of ripe olives, the Bell Carter Olive Company.
Adjacent counties are Butte and Glenn in the south, Mendocino in the southwest, Trinity in the west, Shasta in the north, and Plumas in the east.
Sheep-raising, farming, and fruit-raising are the county’s principal occupations. It is also known as a wheat and barley county.
To better understand the cultural heritage of Tehama, visit the Corning Museum and the Tehama County Museum. Other museums are the Kelly Griggs Museum and the Gaumer’s Jewelry and Museum.
Tehama County has national forests like the Mendocino National Forest, Lassen National Forest and Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Other attractions include Black Butte Lake, Ishi Wilderness, Lake Red Bluff, Lassen Volcanic National Park, William B. Ide Adobe State Historic Park, and the Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area.
Various recreational activities include camping, hiking, fishing, horse back riding, skiing, picnicking, swimming, and boating.
It is a smog-free county with mild winters, warm summers. The county’s unspoiled beauty, preserved environment, and nature in its abundance make it an ultimate place for living.
