Trinity County is named after the Trinity River when, in 1845, Major Pearson Reading mistakenly thought that the river flowed out into the Trinidad Bay.  In 1849, two miners discovered that the river flowed out into the Klamath River.  In 1849, gold rush in the Trinity River began and Chinese and white miners came to inhabit this county. 

The county’s median value of housing is at $112,000.  The approximate population is 13,500.  The land area is at 3,179 square miles.  Cities and towns include Hayfork, Lewiston, and the county seat of Weaverville.

In education, schools enjoy a small population which is an advantage to the students, the teachers and staff, and the community as they are able to develop stronger bonds.  Shasta Community College Extended Education Centers provide post-secondary and vocational courses.  It is located in Weaverville and Hayfork. 

There are countless things to do in Trinity County.  Popular spots include the Joss House State Park, a 150-year old Taoist Temple, the Gold Rush Fireproof Buildings built in 1854, and the Jake Jackson Museum and History Center which exhibits artifacts from the old mining days.   Places like Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Six Rivers National Forest, Highland Art Center Garden, Lowden Park, Fong Park should not be missed.

Trinity Public Utilities District provides the county’s electrical power and has one of the lowest rates in the state.  Other utilities provided are gas, propane, telephone and wireless services.

A history-rich county, a comfortable rural lifestyle, and the small town culture make Trinity County a relaxing place to settle with your family.
