Tulare Relocation Information

Tulare County is the number one leading producer in terms of agricultural commodities in the world and number one in California and the United States in terms of total milk production. The eight cities that make up this county is the state of California’s only Targeted Tax Area, which is an incentive program created to stimulate growth in employment and development in business.  Because of the importance of agriculture in Tulare and its being between the two principal cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco, the world’s largest agricultural exposition, the World Ag Expo has been held here since 1968.  The county is located in the center of California in the San Joaquin Valley.

The approximate population of the county is 429,000 and has a total area of 4,839 square miles.  It was created in 1852 from parts of Mariposa County.  Visalia is the county seat. 

 
 

The county is a perfect place to raise a family.  The communities are family centered.  Housing is affordable with the average home value at $97,000.  An average household income is approximately $34,000.  Per capita personal income, population, and employment have been increasing.

Sequoia National Park, the second oldest national park in the state, Kings Canyon National Park, Inyo National Forest, and Sequoia National Forest provides dining, camping, and lodging.  The world’s largest redwood trees, the General Grant Tree and General Sherman Tree may be found at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Boating, fishing, hunting, backpacking, rock climbing, hiking, water skiing are also offered in mountain resorts in the county and attracts thousands of tourists and visitors.  Continental United States’ tallest peak, located at the boundary between the counties of Inyo and Tulare, is Mount Whitney with an elevation of 14,494 feet.

The county has 46 elementary and high school districts which serves more than 90,000 students.  There are two community colleges, the College of the Sequoias located in Visalia and Porterville College located in the city of Porterville.
