About Delaware
Delaware is one of five Middle Atlantic States in the United States of America. Delaware was one of the original Thirteen Colonies and is known as the "First State" as it was the first to ratify the United States Constitution. The name Delaware comes from Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr, after whom the Delaware Bay was named.

The capital of the State of Delaware is the City of Dover. The State ahs two nicknames of which the first is The First State and the second being the Diamond State and their flag features a colonial blue field with the state's coat of arms which is on a buff-colored diamond. Below the buff-colored diamond is the date of their statehood. The official seal of the State of Delaware features the coat of arms for the state surrounded by the words "Great Seal of the State of Delaware 1793, 1847, 1907." These three dates represent the revisions of the seal. The State of Delaware has a coat of arms that features a farmer along with a rifleman on either side a shield that features the symbols wheat, an ear of corn, and a cow to represent the state's agriculture. Above the shield is a ship in that is in full sail while below the shield is a banner with that has the the state motto.
The State of Delaware has their own state song named "Our Delaware." The Delaware State Motto is Liberty and Independence. Their State bird is the blue hen chicken and the sea trout is the State's fish. While the Delaware State's flower may be the peach blossom, the Delaware State tree is the American holly.
The State of Delaware has a State rock, which is the sillimanite. The State insect was chosen to be the lady bug.
The State of Delaware celebrates all of the same federal holidays, but they do not have their own state holidays. The holidays celebrated in New York are New Year's Day, the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas
There are many notable locations throughout the State of Delaware which includes places like the Fort Christina Monument, Holy Trinity Church, Hagley Museum, and Winterthur Museum all of which can be found in or near the City of Wilmington. The area known as Central New Castle is a historical area that has remained almost completely unchanged since the late 18th-century.
