The State of Florida, which is located in the South Eastern United States, received its name from Juan Ponce de Leon, who landed in the area during Pascua Florida which is the Easter festival of flowers. State was admitted into the Union as the 27th U.S. State on March 3rd of 1845.
The capital of the State of Florida is the City of Tallahassee. The State's nickname is the Sunshine State and their flag features the Florida state seal in the center on a white field with four red bars starting at the edges of the seal and going into the corners and has three sides of fringes. The official seal of the State of Florida features the sun's rays shine over a distant highland while in the foreground is a sable palm tree, a steamboat along with an Indian woman who is scattering flowers on the ground. Encircling the whole are the words "Great Seal of the State of Florida" along with the state motto. An important note about the state seal is that the current seal is actually the second seal of the state where as the original had depicted mountains in the background in which there are no mountains in the State of Florida.
The State of Florida has their own state song named "Old Folks at Home." The Florida State Motto is In God We Trust. Their State bird is the mocking bird and the endangered and protected manatee is the state's marine mammal. The State of Florida has a State gem, which is the moonstone while the State stone was chosen to be the agatized coral and a horse conch is the State's shell.
