About New Jersey

The State of New Jersey, which is located in the North Eastern United States, received its name from the British Channel Island of Jersey. New Jersey State was admitted into the Union as the 3rd US State on December 18th of 1787.

The capital of the State of New Jersey is the City of Trenton. The State's nickname is the "The Garden State" and their flag features the state's coat of arms situated on a buff field. The official seal of the State of New Jersey is the state coat of arms which features a shield in the center with three plows which are symbolic of agriculture. There is also a helmet above in order to indicate sovereignty, and above the helmet is a horse's head which signifies both speed and prosperity. The state motto as well as the date "1776" is displayed on a banner below the illustrations.

The New Jersey State Motto is Liberty and Prosperity. Their State bird is the Eastern goldfinch and a Honeybee is the New Jersey State's insect. While the State's flower may be the Violet, the New Jersey State tree is the Red oak and they also have a memorial tree, the Dogwood.

The State of New Jersey celebrates all of the same federal holidays, but they do not have their own state holidays other than the federal holidays of New Year's Day, the  Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day,; Thanksgiving Day and Christmas.
New Jersey features a wide industrial diversification and is called the Crossroads of the East. With over 15,000 factories, products from New Jersey can easily be delivered overnight to an estimated 60 million people which is the area of the 12 states colonial states as well as the District of Columbia. New Jersey features one of the largest chemical industries in the world and is considered one of the most formidable research centers of the world. There are a number of large oil refineries in northern New Jersey as well as a plethora of machinery, pharmaceuticals, electrical goods, instruments and apparel manufacturers.

There are many notable locations in New Jersey that include Princeton University, the Edison National Historic Site which is located in West Orange, Liberty State Park, Jersey City, the Delaware Water Gap as well as the N.J. State Aquarium which is in Camden.
