New Mexico State Facts and Information
The State of New Mexico, which is located in the South Western United States, received its name from Spanish explorers in 1540 called the area "the New Mexico." The State of New Mexico was admitted into the Union as the 47th US State on January 6th of 1912.
The capital of the State of New Mexico is the City of Santa Fe. The State's nickname is the Land of Enchantment and their flag features the sun symbol of the Indians of Zia Pueblo which appears in red on a yellow field. The official seal of the State of features an American bald eagle with it wings extended and grasping three arrows in its talons while it shields a smaller eagle who is grasping a snake in its beak and it is grasping a cactus in its talons. This is also the emblem of Mexico shows the symbolic of the change in sovereignty from Mexico to America. Below the Eagle scene is the state motto. Encircling the entire image is the words "Great Seal of the State of New Mexico 1912."
The State of New Mexico has a state Song which is named "O Fair New Mexico." The New Mexico State Motto is Crescit eundo which means It grows as it goes. Their State bird is the Roadrunner and a Cutthroat trout is the New Mexico State's fish. While the State's flower may be the Yucca which is also known as the "Our Lord's Candles," the New Mexico State tree is the Pinyon pine.
The State of New Mexico has a State gem, which is Turquoise. The New Mexico State vegetable was chosen to be the Frijol or simply the chile.
The State of New Mexico celebrates all of the same federal holidays, but they do not have their own state holidays other than the federal holidays of New Year's Day, the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day,; Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, those who live in New Mexico also celebrate certain Mexican holidays including Cinco de Mayo.
The principal manufacturing industries that are in New Mexico include chemicals, food products, lumber, transportation equipment, electrical machinery and stone-clay-glass products. New Mexico's farm income comes from livestock products including beans, corn, sheep, cotton, peanuts, chilies, onions, pecans, sorghum, and lettuce.
There are many notable locations throughout New Mexico which includes , the White Sands and Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monuments, the ruins at Fort Union, the Inscription Rock at El Morro National Monument, Billy the Kid mementos at Lincoln, Carlsbad Caverns National ParkBandelier National Monument, and the Chaco Culture National Historical Park.
