The State of Virginia, which is located in the Eastern United States, received its name from Queen Elizabeth I of England, the "Virgin Queen." State was admitted into the Union as the10th U.S. state on June 25th of 1788.

The official seal of the State of Virginia has two sides with the reverse showing the Roman goddess, Virtus who is dressed as an Amazon and is holding a sheathed sword in one hand, while the other holds a spear. Virtus is standing over the body of Tyranny, who has a broken chain in his hand and his fallen crown is laying nearby. The state motto appears below Virtus, while the word "Virginia" appears above, and a border of Virginia creeper encircles the whole. On the reverse side of the State Seal, is the Roman goddess of Liberty, Eternity, and Fruitfulness, with the word "Perseverando," which means "by persevering," appears above the goddess.
The State of Virginia has their own Song named "Carry Me Back to Old Virginia,' which was actually retired as the state song in 1997, but Virginia has failed to replace it. The State Motto is "Sic semper tyrannis," which means "thus ever to tyrants." Their State bird is the Cardinal and a Foxhound is the State's animal along with the Oyster as the State shell. While the State's flower may be the Dogwood, the State tree is also the Dogwood.
The State of Virginia celebrates all of the same federal holidays, but they also have their own state holidays. Besides New Year's Day, the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, those who live in Virginia also celebrate Lee-Jackson Day on the 3rd Monday of January and the Yorktown Victory Day on the 2nd Monday in October.
Virginia features a number of manufacturing industries that includes transportation equipment, textiles, wood products chemicals, food processing, lumber, electronic equipment, apparel, other electrical equipment and furniture.
The state of Virginia ranks in the top ten for a variety of agricultural products that includes apples, tomatoes, snap beans, summer potatoes, tobacco, turkeys, peanuts as well as sweet potatoes. Virginia also features a large dairy industry.
Points of interest in Virginia includes the Mt. Vernon home of George Washington, the Monticello home of Thomas Jefferson, the Stratford home of the Lee Family, the city of Richmond which was the capital of the Confederacy as well as the state of Virginia, and the restored Colonial capital of Williamsburg.
